Micro-blogging

Micro-blogging is another great service that always-on internet connections such as ADSL and 3g/HSDPA have enabled in the last couple of years. There are two questions here. Micro-blogging is a different way of communicating that complements email and Instant Messaging (IM). The core concept behind micro-blogging is short, frequent status messages that can be seen by people who want to know what you're up to. Micro-blogging information can provide an excellent marketing tool for your company. For example, if your company is having a sale on a certain product or service that may appeal to micro-bloggers, you can submit the details via the micro-blogging website to announce it.

Micro-blogging has the potential to become a new informal communication medium especially for collaborative work. Over the last few years communication patterns have shifted primarily from face-to-face communication to more online communication in E-mail , IM , and other tools. Micro-blogging is such a new communication channel with some considerable potential to improve intra-firm transparency and knowledge sharing. However, the adoption of such social software presents certain challenges to enterprises. Micro-blogging, like any self-reporting system can be inaccurate or accurate at the reporter's whim. Using a micro-blog as a vehicle, one can create whatever persona one wants, and broadcast the persona to the ends of the earth.

Micro-blogging is the process of sending short text updates that describe what you're doing and/or thinking to a web site or web application. The messages are available to whomever has subscribed to view your messages. Micro-blogging is a new form of social communication that encourages users to share information about anything they are seeing or doing, the motivation facilitated by the ability to post brief text messages through a variety of devices. Twitter, the most popular micro-blogging tool, is exhibiting rapid growth [3]: up to 11% of online Americans are using Twitter by December 2008, compared to 6% in May 2008. Micro-blogging allows you to write brief text updates about your life on the go, and send them to friends and interested observers via text messaging, instant messaging, email or the web. The most popular service is called Twitter , which was developed last year and became popular among techno-gurus at the 2007 South by Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas.

Micro-blogging may be just the thing for you. Micro-blogging is the practice of sending brief posts to a personal blog on a micro-blogging Web site, such as Twitter or Jaiku. Micro-posts can be made public on a Web site and/or distributed to a private group of subscribers. Micro-blogging has become popular and has received a lot of mainstream media attention, particularly in the wake of the unbelievable tragedy that was the earthquake in China . If you're someone, however, who hasn't joined the Twitter bandwagon yet or doesn't see the point of micro-blogging, you might be wondering what attraction this Web 2.0 service holds for people.

Micro-blogging is a rather new and innovative means of communication and journalism that fits right into the goals of not only the Knight Drupal Initiative, but also the Knight Foundation itself. Micro-blogging is still fairly new in the fast developing Internet, but has shown many unexpected benefits. Organizations can use it for many different purposes. Micro-blogging is fast making its presence felt. According to Wikipedia, micro blogging is a form of multimedia blogging that allows users to send brief text updates or micromedia such as photos or audio clips and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group which can be chosen by the user.
