Wellbeing is not just the absence of disease or illness. It is a complex combination of a person's physical, mental, emotional and social health factors. Wellbeing is enhanced by the use of stress resilient techniques, regular exercise and healthy eating habits while ensuring the balance between your work and personal lives is continually maintained. Corporate wellbeing and personal wellbeing are separate however, they do have a very strong impact on each other when they are linked by two willing parties i.e. Wellbeing is far from an irrelevant concept in the study of international development.

Wellbeing is such a horrible term. It's a silly, trendy, new age, hippy word, grown in the dubious plant pots of the 1960s. Wellbeing is also related to some extent to long-standing traits of personality. Wellbeing is holistic and operates on a continuum; therefore change needs to be seen in a larger context. This is where partnerships are particularly important, as they provide an integrated approach to the work, acknowledging the complexity of community wellbeing.

Wellbeing is not just a state of feeling good (that can be obtained, short-term, in various ways, including sex, drugs and alcohol!). And it is not just a state of being contented with your lot when that lot may objectively be rather a poor one.

Wellbeing is a broad concept with many varying definitions. Here, it is understood to be a positive physical, social and mental state; it is not just the absence of pain, discomfort and incapacity. Wellbeing comes from having a web of relationships and interests. Family and friends, work, leisure activities and spiritual beliefs can all increase our wellbeing.

Russian scientists discovered its benefits in the '70s when trying to find a workout that could be done in space. Exercise or dieting alone does not provide optimal health or long term results. The human body is an amazing and highly complex unit, and so the path to health, fitness and wellbeing needs to be a holistic one.

Social human beings differ from each other - they are old-young, male-female, hold one system of beliefs or another and have different histories. These differences matter in terms of what people perceive themselves as needing and wanting, what they can aspire to and how they are able to act within society. Social science has demonstrated that individuals in less advantaged positions are more likely to suffer poor health. Research has also shown that childhood circumstances as well as material and environmental disadvantage over an individual's lifecourse can have long-term implications for health.

Indicators and measurements of wellbeing are being extended beyond preferences and levels of satisfaction to incorporate the degree to which human beings can flourish together so as to lead a good life. Community wellbeing as place, location and fraternity are also coming to the fore in government policy formulations. Indicate growth beyond the stage of idea, concept, or research. At a minimum, entries should be at the demonstration stage and indicate success.
