Skin is our largest organ - adults carry some 8 pounds (3.6 kilograms) and 22 square feet (2 square meters) of it. This fleshy covering does a lot more than make us look presentable. Skin RX Clinics wants your skin to be flawless and protected! Skin holds everything together.

Skin cancer is also known as skin neoplasia. Skin cancer that forms in melanocytes (skin cells that make pigment) is called melanoma. Skin cancer that forms in basal cells (small, round cells in the base of the outer layer of skin) is called basal cell carcinoma.

Skin infections can be spread from one athlete to another. You can help protect athletes from becoming sick or losing playing time due to skin infections. Skin cancers may have many different appearances. They can be small, shiny, waxy, scaly and rough, firm and red, crusty or bleeding, or have other features. Skin cancers include melanoma, basal cell, and squamous cell. Basal and squamous cell are common and treatment is very effective; malignant melanoma, especially in later stages of melanoma, is serious and treatment is difficult.

Skin is essential in many ways. It forms a barrier that prevents harmful substances and microorganisms from entering the body. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. The two most common types of skin cancer 'basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas' are highly curable. Skin has mesodermal cells, pigmentation , or melanin , provided by melanocytes , which absorb some of the potentially dangerous ultraviolet radiation (UV) in sunlight . It also contains DNA -repair enzymes that help reverse UV damage, and people who lack the genes for these enzymes suffer high rates of skin cancer .

Skin: A Natural History places the rich cultural canvas of skin within its broader biological context for the first time, and the result is a tremendously engaging look at ourselves. Skin plays a vital role in keeping you healthy. It is the largest organ in your body, and it protects you from potential problems caused by such factors as dehydration, the sun, bacterial infections, and pollution. Skin friction , Skin resistance , the friction, or resistance, caused by the tendency of water to adhere to the immersed surface (skin) of a vessel.

Melanin gives skin part of its coloration, and the inability to synthesize it is the condition we call albinism ; an albino animal has white fur or feathers and no pigmentation in its eyes, either. Melanin, in various forms, has probably been on the Earth a billion years. And has been recruited over and over again by evolution, as often happens.

Melanoma occurs most frequently in white people, and is rare in people with dark skin; it is usually found in adults, though occasionally melanoma may develop in children and adolescents. Over exposure to sunlight can cause skin changes which can lead to melanoma. Melanoma, even though it can spread to other body parts quickly, is also highly curable if detected early and treated properly. The 5-year relative survival rate for patients with melanoma is 91%.
