How to become a notary public. (05 Aug 2009)
Notaries are elected by the county legislative body in the county in which they reside or have their principal place of business (8-18-101), and are commissioned by the governor (8-16-102). A person with a principal place of business in a Tennessee county may be elected a notary in that county even though that person's residence is in another state (18-16-101). Notary Public Online, www.notarypublic.com, provides state-by-state notary public training and certification requirements. In addition to traditional advertising in the Yellow Pages and newspapers, the most successful notaries public are those who build a broad network of business alliances with professionals who require notary public services. Notaries can charge a fee per signature (maximum fee mandated by the state), as well as charging a fee for mobile services and loan signing services. Mobile Notaries have been a recognized profession for many years, providing a valuable service to those who can't go to a Notary, or just want the convenience of having the Notary come to them.
