Anorexia nervosa, or simply anorexia, is a psychiatric and physical illness in which the sufferer basically starves herself. Clinically, a person is anorexic if she has 85 percent or less of the normal body weight for someone of her age and height, yet continues to fast or diet. Anorexia and Bulimia are equal opportunity eating disorders. There is no certain race, gender, sexual or religious background in which these eating disorders are more predominant. Anorexia nervosa is the most fatal of all psychiatric illnesses, and over 90 per cent of eating disorder victims are young women. While anorexia is often portrayed in the media as a phase that some young girls obsessed by their appearance go through, the realities of the illness prove that nothing could be further from the truth. Anorexics stabilized their weight. Anorexia is not just common to women, its also common in men. Teenagers who have low-self esteem caused by depression and other emotional problems also plays a part to triggers. ANorexics are different from bulimecs. Where anorexics are really thin and slim, bulimecs can be thin or have an average body size. Anorexia affects both the body and the mind. It may start as dieting, but it gets out of control. Anorexia Nervosa, more popularly known as Anorexia, is a psychological disorder characterized by extremely low weight. It is an eating disorder, wherein the patient voluntarily starves him/herself. Anorexia treatment should be considered if a young woman is manifesting any of the anorexia symptoms and circumstances. Anorexia involves mainly psychological components. There is an intense preoccupation with food, body size and fear of being fat. Anorexia nervosa is a psychological eating disorder. A person with anorexia refuses to eat and loses enough weight to become thin. Anorexics are often very smart, popular or try to please everyone. They are those students that get good grades, have lots of friends, do extra-curricular activities and more. Anorexics are also often characterized as stubborn, vain, appearance-obsessed people who simply do not know when to stop dieting. But anorexia nervosa is much more than just a diet gone awry, and the sufferer more than an obstinate, skinny person refusing to eat. Anorexic girls are preoccupied with dieting and being thin, often seeing themselves as fat despite being severely underweight. Their excessive weight loss can cause shrunken organs, loss of bone mineral and an irregular heartbeat. Anorexics cannot see themselves as others do. Even as they become completely emaciated, they feel fat. Anorexia can be life-threatening. Also called anorexia nervosa .
